I have always detested the ward cookbooks that every ward seems to put out every few years. They always have nothing but the traditional LDS foods like funeral potatoes. This past Dec. my ward put another one out and I was going to throw it out without even looking at it. Boy am I glad I didn't. As it turns out we have a huge range oof ethnic backgrounds in our ward, and the collection of recipies shows it. We have people from China, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Korea, England, and Africa.
So a couple weeks ago I thought I would experiment and find some new recipies to make...I tend to do that a couple times a year because I get bored with the same food over and over. It has been great. Not everything I have made comes from the ward cookbook, but about half does and there isn't a thing I have made that we didn't like. Perhaps these little books are worth having around as a resource after all. |

I have quite the collection of them myself and there are a few things I make out of them.
I love to try NEW recipes... something the shake up the old routine. Glad you were able to find some fun new stuff. Recently we put together a family cookbook of recipes we ate growing up and some things we have learned to make for our own families. I use it a TON. Jill |

I think you should pass along a couple of your favorite recipes from your ward cookbook. I am always looking for new ideas. Melanie, I will try to do that some time shortly. I too always like good recipies, and they are hard to come across sometimes, so I try to pass ones I love. I'll try to not take too long in passing some of them along here. (When I get around to typing up the ones I want to save I will post them!)
Jill, an idea for your collection of ward cook books if you want to down size a little is to get a binder with page protectors and pull out the ones from your collection you do use and slide them in. Then you can toss what you don't use and compress that cupboard of cook books you have. For myself, I type them all out on my computer and print them, punch holes, etc. but they all still wind up in the same binder. It sure saves me the headache of trying to figure out which book a recipe is in! |

Charlie, that's a good idea. I really should condense all my cookbooks that way. I have more than I will ever use.
